Click the button marked '.', top right.

Open Notebook Fan Control from the start menu.

Then click OK and finally 'save' on the top menu.

If you wish to change the keyboard back-light from the 75% default, click the 'Register write configuration' tab, double click the value of 75, and change the 'value' entry to the appropriate percentage (0-100).

Open the Config Editor from the new start menu folder for Notebook Fan Control.

Granted, it's not full control with a hotkey, but this solution works for me :P Using the steps below, you gain full control over the CPU fan, as well as being able to set a value for the keyboard back-light which remains at all times.

As far as I can tell, the CPU fan never spins up, at least I let the CPU get to 95C without hearing it. Along the way to the solution, I have also discovered how to control the fan, meaning I can keep the CPU cool under full load. I discovered the back-light could be poked via the Embedded Controlled registers, and set off on working out a way to solve my problem. When the machine is suspended however, the keyboard back-light goes off as expected but remains off when waking up! u/MrChromebox modded the UEFI firmware to set the keyboard back-light to 75% on boot, which was fantastic as there was no way to directly control it in Windows.

This little adventure was spawned by an annoyance when using Windows 10 on my Dell Chromebook 13 7310.
